Demand for housing services is on the increase, GTS Novera is expanding its data centres

Prague, 14 October 2009 – There is more and more demand for housing centres, even during the current economy recession. For this reason the national telecommunications operator GTS Novera today announced its plans for further growth in this sphere. The company plans to open an expanded centre in Brno at the end of this October, and a new Prague housing centre will be opened next spring covering 700 m2. The planned expansions follow the opening of a data hall in Prague this year.

“We are one of the largest providers of data centres in the Czech Republic. We are registering increasing interest in these services, and so we have decided not only to increase the capacity of our current halls, but next spring to open a completely new centre in Prague,” says Pavel Brabenec, director of products and product management at GTS Novera.

“Despite economic downturn, we have continued to grow in this vital business segment through listening to our customers and adapting our product portfolio accordingly. The new data centre and telehousing facilities form only part of new value added services and integrated ICT services which we are bringing to the Czech Republic. Of course, this represents significant investment on our part, however, Telecoms is an industry central to economic prosperity so continued investment into new technologies and services is vital not just for the health of GTS Novera but for that of the entire Czech Republic.  We want to create a competitive advantage not just for our company but also for the Czech Republic – we want to make it as attractive as possible for companies to do business with us and in this country. We hope that this investment will bring benefits to the entire economy,” says Stuart Evers, CEO, GTS Novera.

October 2009 – a new data centre in Brno

At the end of October GTS Novera will open a new data centre covering 250 m2 in Veveří street, Brno. By doing so, the company will expand its current internal centre and make it available for its customers.

April 2010 – expansion of the Vinohradská data centre in Prague

April 2010 will see the opening of another housing centre in Prague with a surface area of 700 m2, which will significantly expand the capacity of existing data halls in the location of Vinohradská street, Prague.

The opening of a new centre in Brno and the expansion of the centre in Vinohrady, Prague, will follow on the heels of the new hall opened this summer. This expanded the capacity of the Prague Nagano centre in U nákladového nádraží street. With a surface area of 1,400 m2 this is one of the largest data centres in the Czech Republic. Even prior to the opening of the new hall, customers had reserved more than 30 % of the newly created capacity.

Five data centres around the Czech Republic

After opening the new data centre in Prague next spring GTS Novera will be operating a total of five data centres in the Czech Republic – two in Prague (at Vinohradská and U nákladového nádraží), two in Brno (at Veveří and Výstaviště), and one in Ostrava (at Na desátém) with a surface area totalling more than 3,600 m2.

Safety, backup and non-stop supervision

GTS Novera data centres are equipped with the most up-to-date physical security equipment, including building entry chip cards, special security keys, remotely supervised door locks, reception service, and naturally a lockable box secured against burglary. The uninterrupted power supply of the servers, even in the event of a power cut, is provided by UPS and diesel generators. Safety features include a unique fire system using gas, while the efficient air-conditioning constantly monitors temperature and moisture. Non-stop supervision is taken as read.

All GTS Novera data centres allow companies to operate their server infrastructure directly and via internet backbone backup. The fully backed up optical network offers a speed of 10 Gbit/s between the main junctions. International connectivity of 2 x 10 Gbit/s and 2 x 2.5 Gbit/s is provided by two independent providers on GTS Novera data links in two localities, Frankfurt and Vienna.
